Sustainability

Koi Girl is a Western Australian label that specializes in transforming vintage and antique silk kimono and obi belts into unique and beautiful handbags, purses, and accessories. The label's designer, Tanya Stewart, carefully selects each piece of fabric based on its pattern, print, or embroidered motif, and then they are crafted by hand to create a one-of-a-kind statement piece.

Koi Girl is committed to sustainability and ethical fashion practices, and the label's upcycled designs reflect this commitment. By reusing and repurposing vintage materials, Koi Girl is able to create contemporary collections that retain the beauty and authenticity of their original form. The label's focus on slow fashion and ethical production ensures that each item is crafted with care and attention to detail.

Koi Girl collections include one of a kind statement piece handbags, clutches, purses and versatile scarves, which can be worn as head scarves, neck scarves or like a truly reimagined obi, as a waist sash. Carefully handcrafted with love, in Perth Western Australia.

Koi Girl shoes are also another addition to the Koi Girl collection.

These shoes are beautifully and ethically made into beautiful modern day ‘geta’.

These stunning one of a kind handcrafted square heeled mules, from vintage silk obi belts and leather are made by a family owned small manufacturing business in Ubud, Bali. The small factory operations started up again after a long period of uncertainty and struggle from Covid19. I am so grateful to have my shoes made by this family, and to support small businesses, not just locally in Australia, but in communities abroad.
