A true statement piece, this one-of-a-kind A-line dress is crafted from panels of vintage silk obi belts, each carefully selected for its intricate patterns, texture, and history. No two sections are the same, creating a rich tapestry of traditional Japanese textiles reimagined into a contemporary silhouette.
The dress is adorned with hand-crafted Kanzashi flowers, a traditional Japanese technique typically used for delicate hair ornaments worn with kimono. Each flower has been individually made and hand-sewn onto the dress, creating a sculptural, textural finish that celebrates craftsmanship and detail.
The straps are formed from gold and silver obijime cord, traditionally used to secure an obi, adding both structure and a subtle nod to its cultural origins.
This piece took months to complete and is a true labour of love — from the sourcing of vintage materials to the meticulous hand-finishing. Originally created as the finale piece for STYLEAID, it has since been showcased at Circular Fashion Week, featured on Channel 10 News, and presented at the Perth Japan Festival.
